Road Tax from January 1, 2025 – What does it mean for you as a customer?
9 December 2024
The new kilometer-based road tax for trucks will take effect on January 1, 2025. This means that all transport companies, including Danske Fragtmænd, will need to include an additional cost in our pricing.
About the New Road Tax
The tax will apply to all trucks with a technically permissible total weight of 12 tons or more. Starting January 1, 2027, the government intends to expand the road tax to include all trucks weighing 3.5 tons or more. The tax will apply to both Danish and foreign trucks.
Initially, the road tax will cover most of the national road network and parts of the municipal road network (a total of approximately 10,900 km). From January 1, 2028, the entire public road network in Denmark will be included (approximately 75,000 km).
Danske Fragtmænd will be required to pay a road toll for every kilometer our trucks travel on the designated road network, including the environmental zones in Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, Odense, Aarhus, and Aalborg. The toll will vary depending on the truck's CO2 emission class and its technically permissible maximum weight.
How Does This Impact Your Transport Price?
The road tax will be charged as a percentage surcharge calculated based on the net freight amount of the shipment.
