Carriers help refugees enter the labour market
25 March 2018
On Tuesday, 13 March 2018, Danske Fragtmænd’s freight terminal in Taastrup was the venue of the launch of a new driver’s training programme for refugees. Here, three firms of road carriers were among the participants.
Vikarbureauet Flyers, a temporary employment agency based in Taastrup, has established a new driver’s training programme in collaboration with the Municipality of Roskilde and a number of firms of road carriers, Viggo Petersens Eftf., J. Nørgaard Petersen and Stavnskær Fragt.
On the training programme, the course participants receive vocationally relevant Danish language lessons and acquire a dangerous goods certificate, a category B driving licence, truck driving licence and, for a few participants, also a licence to drive with a trailer. The course participants have been screened by Flyers, which has looked at a number of qualifications which the carriers have jointly found are required to define what constitutes a good driver. In this way, the jobs have found the job seekers, and not the other way around.
Even though the screenings are primarily done in Danish, so that it is ensured in advance that the course participants have a sensible level of language proficiency, the driving licence classes are taught in Arabic. At the same time, both the driving school and Danish classes are gathered at the language centre, which is run and managed by Flyers and the carriers.
This releases as many resources as possible, so that the course participants have the opportunity to use the resources to complete the programme and obtain qualifications so that they have the best possible chances of succeeding on the Danish labour market. The training programme will be completed in August/September.
On the News at 7 pm this evening, TV 2 also ran a feature of more than three minutes’ duration on the training programme.
